Time Line

In the beginning ... To the present

1977 October Began meeting in Dick Kirkman's house in Whetstone.
1980 February 16 Staked out the location to build on land (purchased earlier) adjacent to Dick's house.
1983 June Began meeting in the basement of the new building.
1985 March 23 Purchased the pews and pulpit from First Christian church in Sierra Vista.
1985 July Borrowed $10,000 to install carpet and furnaces. (And was paid off by July 1988; this was the only money ever borrowed for the building.)

Held a revival meeting with Jerry Weller of Ottumwa, Iowa, to initiate the newly-completed auditorium.
1988 March Purchased communion table/baptistry.
1989 April Planted oleanders on the west side of the property.
1989 May Built the outside entrance to the basement.
1991 January Kitchen cabinets installed in the basement.
1991 July Paul Dalrymple began preaching each Sunday. Before Paul began preaching regularly, he, Dick Kirkman, Richard Kirkman, and Randy Kirkman took turns preaching on Sundays.
1993 June Incorporated as the Whetstone Church of Christ.
1995 February Sidewalks were poured.
1995 July Purchased the piano.
2000 May Installed the steeple.
2000 August Scott Dalrymple began preaching each Sunday.
2002 October 20 Held the first annual Round-Up Day outside the building, on the east side.
2003 February 22 Replaced the pews with new chairs.
2005 April 14 The parking lot was paved; a gift from Loren Sheldon.
